Summer Camp - To the Hills
After having a slight break from Summer Camps, we decided to restart with a bang. This year we headed back to an old haunt of Banderlogs, Knoydart on the west coast of Scotland. Knoydart is considered to be one of the very last wildernesses in the UK, with the only way to get to it via 'shanks pony' or by ferry from Mallaig.
Whilst on Knoydart the unit stayed in a bothy about an hour from Inverie, this provided an excellent base for doing a number of different walks. Not to mention it provided brilliant protection from the wee beasties (midges) that patrol Scotland, for their next meal. After 5 days of walking, and managing to get into the top of 3 mountains the unit moved from the bothy to the Inverie beach campsite. Where we were treated to one of the very best sunsets over the bay.
With time over on Knoydart we moved down to Fort William to be able to finish the camp in style and have a decent wash in some showers not in a cold river. On the last day we headed for Ben Nevis, where everybody managed to reach the top and even with the view obscured by cloud, spirits weren't dampened and there was big sense of achievement.
